Hollywood Fights Back Against Online Pirates

Video sites with stolen content attracted 141 billion visits in 2023.

Online pirating of TV shows and movies continues to plague the industry.

According to a new report from MUSO, a piracy tracking firm, video sites with stolen content attracted 141 billion visits in 2023, up 12% from 2019.

Many thieves have moved their operations overseas to places like Vietnam, where the top three English-language piracy sites are all located because there is a lack of precedent for enforcement against it.

Hollywood hopes to fight antipiracy overseas by lobbying courts to mandate internet providers such as Cox Communications, who are within the U.S. jurisdiction, to block these piracy sites.

Until then, online piracy will continue to undercut the industry.
