Private label is showing no signs of slowing down.
According to Numerator, most sales at Aldi (80%) and Trader Joe’s (70%) came from private-label products in the past year.
While private label currently accounts for a smaller portion of Walmart's (31%) and Target's overall sales (25%), Walmart’s newly launched Bettergoods and Target’s Dealworthy brand were the year’s two fastest-growing private label brands.
In many industries, private-label products can carry about two times the gross margin that national brands can — making it a no-brainer for retailers to expand into new private-label offerings.
