Starbucks and coffee chains could see a sales bump from the return-to-office mandates.
As workers return to the office, more and more are picking up a coffee for the road. At least that’s what the data indicates—36% of consumers in January 2024 who drank coffee on a “past-day basis” did so outside their homes, the highest level since January 2020.
Another factor that could be driving the increase in out-of-home coffee drinking is the industry’s renewed emphasis on the in-store experience. Coffee chains are focused on getting customers to linger more at stores again and ensuring orders are delivered on time when people rush to work in the morning.
