Why Walmart Wants Your Gas Stop

Walmart plans to significantly increase the number of gas stations located next to its new and existing stores.

Walmart currently operates around 415 gas stations. The company plans to open 40 to 45 more this year, more than double the 20 it opened last year. It also expects to accelerate that growth significantly in the years ahead.
Walmart’s gas play is mainly about the traffic. Walmart knows convenience matters to customers. The goal is to create a one-stop experience, so when people come to shop for groceries, they can also fill up their tank and save time in the process.
They also recognize that 70% of Americans choose gas stations based on price, making Walmart’s everyday low price strategy a strong draw for local customers over nearby alternatives.
Fill your tank, fill your trunk—Walmart’s got both covered.
