Grocery stores want a bigger slice of pizza sales.
‍
Supermarket chains are expanding their pizza offerings to attract customers:
‍
- Walmart announced a partnership with Texas-based Mr. Gatti’s Pizza to open up 92 corporate-owned units inside Walmart locations across Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Kentucky
- Regional chain Giant Food teamed up with Maryland-based Ledo Pizza to sell their square pizzas in their grocery stores
- Specialty grocery store The Fresh Market launched a new hot & fresh Neapolitan-style pizza
‍
Grocery stores also rake in the dough with frozen pizza. According to Circana, Americans spent $7.4 billion on frozen pizza over the last 12 months ending in July, more than on frozen breakfast foods, snacks, or baked goods.
