Your Nurse may soon be an AI Agent
AI comes for everything – nurses may be next.
AI chipmaker Nvidia has teamed up with healthcare startup Hippocratic AI to develop empathetic AI healthcare agents called Hippocratic AI Constellation. The AI healthcare agents are built on Hippocratic’s safety-focused large language model (LLM).
Hippocratic AI Constellation outperformed human nurses in every category tested:
- 79% to 63% in identifying a medication's impact on lab values
- 88% to 45% in identifying condition-specific disallowed over-the-counter medications
- 96% to 93% in correctly comparing a lab value to a reference range
- 81% to 57% in detecting toxic dosages of over-the-counter drugs
It also beat rivals OpenAI’s GPT-4 and Meta’s LLaMA2 70B Chat, and they cost $9/hour compared to the median wage of $60.26/hour for a registered nurse in California.
Hippocratic AI is working with more than 40 provider groups, healthcare systems, and digital health companies to undergo a rigorous internal testing process to ensure the products are safe and effective before being available to the public.
The initial use case will be voice-based, patient-facing, non-diagnostic applications – such as reminding patients to take their meds.
Before you panic: The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that more than 275,000 additional nurses will be needed from 2020 to 2030. AI nurse agents can be one solution to help bridge the gap and ensure that everyone gets the care they need.
