Google Maps tackles information discovery
Google Maps is getting a big update that could solve the age-old question…
What do you want to eat? What do you want to do? Etc.
The app now lets you use AI to search for specific spots based on descriptive queries like “things to do with friends at night.” While you can already find thousands of BuzzFeed-esque lists for this on Google, I think the friction of having to scroll through lists and then search for more information on each option individually prevented me and others from using it.
While AI can’t yet generate new ideas, it has changed the information discovery process and made it more accessible—from helping you save time on a simple Google Search query to extracting answers at work.
I also wonder if the value proposition for curated lists from friends becomes more valuable as AI floods our information feeds with thousands of collections for popular descriptions.
